Old Russian literary monument

This ancient work, which bears the full title “The Tale of the Campaign of Igor, Igor, son of Svyatoslav, grandson of Olgov,” is rightfully one of the most famous ancient Russian literary monuments. The plot is based on a description of the unsuccessful campaign of the Russian princes against the Polovtsians in 1185, undertaken by the Novgorod-Seversk prince Igor Svyatoslavich.

To illustrate the book, reproductions of paintings “Lament of Yaroslavna” by V.G. Perov were used. and “After the massacre of Igor Svyatoslavich with the Polovtsians” by V.M. Vasnetsov. The cover features a drawing by I.Ya. Bilibin.
